Proposal Writing Workshop

This event is free to attend. RSVP by emailing mjewett1@cnm.edu.

Bring your best idea about teaching literacy in any content area or English language arts and turn it into the proposal for the national conference in Denver in 2020. Scholars and teachers who have previously reviewed and presented at NCTE will be there to help you. Come build a network of friends and associates educating in New Mexico.

The NCTE Annual Convention will be held November 2020 in Denver, CO and our own Alfredo Lujan will be presiding as President and Program Chair. Help us make a strong New Mexico presence at this national event by submitting proposals to present the best of the 505!

¿Pregunta porque: Questioning and Inquiry?

On average, teachers ask two questions every minute or up to 400 questions every day. By contrast, students ask very few questions in class and if they do they are often clarifying questions. How can we extend and lift the questioning pattern of our students and model this as literacy educators? Pregunta porque forces us to consider why questions matter and how to leverage questioning to promote critical thinking and inquiry that is meaningful and may extend beyond the classroom.

As you develop your proposal for this year’s conference, you might begin with these questions in mind:

  • Why have you selected the books that you teach?

  • How do you use assessment to foster inquiry or to accurately gauge student learning?

  • How can we foster student inquiry to generate critical thinking and change?

  • What technology tools are available to promote student inquiry?

  • How might our curriculum inspire students to identify and develop their passions or make change in the world?

  • How might new state leadership, policies, and funding affect classroom practices and student learning?

Join educators from around the state for the fall conference hosted by the New Mexico Council Teachers of English. Language Arts teachers in English and Spanish, as well as content teachers who support literacy development are invited to attend.
